8.0 Threats to the gross to net
8.1 Threat #1: Staff compliment: over-staffing is the biggest drain on the gross to net return. The staffing
illustration below shows the cost of manning just the front desk 24 hours, 365 days, with 2 people on
shift at circa £190,771. The key factor determining how many staff needed on site is the fire strategy.

A system that is designed to raise the 1 alarm and give say 6 minutes to investigate and silence the
panel (before the full alarm triggers evacuation) may well necessitate having 2 staff on site (due to
travel distances and not being able to get to the point of investigation and silence a false alarm quickly
enough). Installing repeater panels in high risk areas and community facilities can improve the
problem.

Staffing smaller sites: On small sites under 120 units options include 2 dedicated move-in days
(midweek and Saturdays). At under 200 units viability requires 1 person on shift 24 hours or perhaps ½
to ¾ time cover which as an example would provide the following cover:
